 Frequently Asked Questions
  • How can I help someone that doesn't want help?
That is a good question. Hoarders never just want to give up their belongings. All their items have some kind of meaning to them, that's why they keep them. You first need to arm yourself with the facts. There are several good resources out there. I would recommend you visit www.ChildrenOfHoarders.com This website was created by a daughter of a hoarder, who has put together a huge database of information on her website, free of charge. Contact us for more resources and how to "get the ball rolling".

  • What is the best way to reach you?
Our toll free number is (888) 577-7206. If you need help after normal business hours, press option #1 when the recorded message plays. You can also email us 24 hours a day with questions at info@Steri-Clean.com or info@HoardingCleanup.com

  • What is the charge for your service?
Our fees vary from job to job. The only way to accurately estimate your particular job is to send one of our team members to the property. We will discuss your individual needs and determine such factors as time needed to clean, what supplies will be needed and how many employees will be needed for the job. We will then give you an estimate in writing for you to look over and make your own decision. There is no fee for an estimate.

  • What if there are valuables in the house?
When you look at it realistically, most of these homes will have valuables in them. Under the mounds of trash, clutter, and personal items are the remains of a once functioning home. Steri-Clean employees are all trained so they know what to look for while cleaning out a hoarders property. We will always set aside anything questionable and let the homeowner, family member, or conservator make the decision whether or not an item should be saved. Other obvious items like jewelry, legal documents, bank statements, antiques, collectibles, china, cash, photos, etc. WILL be saved and boxed up. We take every precaution to prevent the loss of something of value whether that be monetary or sentimental.

  • How long will the cleaning take?
Each job is different. Some may take a couple hours and others may take 1 day, a couple days or a couple weeks. Again, it is important that we come out and inspect the job to give you an idea of the scope of work needed to perform each job.

  • How do you dispose of so much stuff?
For smaller jobs we can load the items into our box vans and cargo vans. For larger jobs we can arrange for rolloff containers to be delivered. Sizes range from 3 yards like those at apartment buildings up to 40 yards which are the size of a small semi truck. We have the capabilities to handle any size job so let us know how we can help you!

  • What if Code Enforcement has cited me?
Code enforcement officers are simply doing their job. They don't want to get you in trouble, impose fines, or have you evicted. They just want you to be safe and have a healthy environment to live in. Many times a homeowner feels threatened by them and we understand that. Just keep in mind their job is to make sure property is safe and up to code. They will usually give you a notice to fix a problem and a time frame of around 30 days to comply. What they really need to see in that 30 days is progress. If a code enforcement officer comes by and sees that you are making reasonable progress, they will almost always extend the final inspection date. Steri-Clean works with many code enforcement officers (and agencies) and has a good working relationship with them. We can almost always contact them for an extension on your deadline if needed. But, this is not a time to procrastinate. Again, you must show that you are making reasonable progress. Once Steri-Clean is hired, you will make more than reasonable progress. We will get your property in the condition needed to pass an inspection with flying colors! Let Steri-Clean assist you with your violations and help prevent Code Enforcement from having to take any legal actions.
